The iMatter Mission

Since we will inherit this world, iMatter was created to reach across regional, ideological, and ethnic borders, to empower youth to organize, and be heard on the issue of global climate change. We are not only the generation who will suffer most from its consequences. We are also the generation who will bring about the change needed to create a sustainable and just society that values nature and future generations as much as short term interests.

Who We Are

WE are a generation inspired by the need itself to step up and be the change we want to see. iMatter began as a simple video, created by a 13 year old, that covered the problems, consequences and solutions of climate change in like a minute. And now it's a global campaign meant to unite

Who We Are

the voices of a generation on the most urgent issue of our time. The non profit project of Earth Island Institute, called Kids vs Global Warming, has pulled together a bunch of amazing partners to give youth a platform to raise their voices so loud they cannot be ignored.

Alec Loorz

Hi, I'm a junior in high school in Ventura CA and I've been a climate change activist for 4 years now. I started Kids vs. Global Warming when I was 12 and have spent my entire teenage life speaking to hundreds of thousands of youth and adults about this issue. I was encouraging youth to do simple things like ride their bikes more and encourage their schools to do energy retrofits...but all along I knew it wasn't enough. I think the voices of our whole generation need to be raised together so that the ruling generation can see that the climate crisis is really about US, our future. That's how the idea for the iMatter March began, but it's a huge team of people who are making it happen

Akilah Sanders-Reed

Hi! I'm a junior in high school. I live just outside of Albuquerque, NM. I'm working to support organizers for the March because I've been involved with several different climate orgs like 1 Sky, 350.org, Sierra Club, and Roots & Shoots for a few years. I love backpacking, skiing, reading, celtic music, and my pet gecko, and I am a black belt in karate.

Alex Budd

Hi, I'm an 18 year old product of Boulder, Colorado. Trained as a presenter by The Climate Project in 2007, I've been in the climate/environmental "fight" for years now, and have worked with all sorts of groups including The Climate Project, 350, Earth Guardians, 1Sky, and others. I'm really excited by all the momentum, energy, and fantastic people working for a sustainable world with the iMatter Campaign, and hope you'll get more involved youself!

Andrew Peake

Hey there, I'm Andrew. I'm a 24 year old organizer and political ninja from Ventura California. I went to the University of California, Davis (Go Aggies!) and worked extensively as a campaign manager for progressive candidates and causes. Outside of work, I have a very special relationship with my cool green road bike, a horrible addiction to coffee, and love of NPR.

Lucy Emerson-Bell

Hello! I'm 25 and from Denver, Colorado. I am Colorado College alum, a certified yoga instructor and now work for a sustainable consultant. I organized events for Step It Up, Focus the Nation, 350.org and interned for the 2008 Democratic National Convention as a "greening" intern. I "live like the future matters" by growing veggies in her front yard and bike on my (even cooler) green bike.

Mark Ryan

Hi! I reside in Camarillo, Ca. and I am a fervent admirer of the outdoors and mother nature. Although my "professional" experience is within the technology industry, my heart and passion have always been aligned and focused on sustainability, conservation and preservation. For roughly 3 years, I worked with Dell as a Program Manager for their XM College Campus Program. I am a Trojan at heart (and by formal education), documentary buff (typically those that are environment centric), and a student of the art of Recycology!

Victoria Loorz

I'm Alec's mom (and Olivia's too!) and co-director of Kids vs Global Warming. When Alec saw An Inconvenient Truth four years ago, we had no idea this work would consume our lives. But I can't imagine a more fulfilling way to spend my days.

Valerie-serrels

Hey there, so I'm in the category of "It's stupid to reveal your age". I adore teenagers and have several of my own, as well as having had the pleasure of working with many young people as the founding director of a faith based non-profit focused on youth, the arts, and social change. I'm into peacebuilding, justice for all peoples and the earth. I prefer a good Coke slurpee from 7-11 over a latte' from Starbucks. I know, I know, it's weird. Oh, and I have a really cool purse with peace signs on it.

Reed Aronow

I am an environmental advocate with a background in community organizing and climatology. I've has worked to organize environmental events and campaigns, including the Focus The Nation 2010 Minnesota Clean Energy Forum, and organized two 700 mile 350.org Climate Bike Rides through rural and small town Minnesota. I've witnessed firsthand the immense power that natural forces can possess after surviving a tornado that lifted my family's car when I was fourteen. As a youth delegate to the United Nations Framework Conferences on Climate Change with the Will Steger Foundation and Sustain US, I believe that the answers to the climate crisis will be rooted in strong communication and collaboration across a wide diversity of political views and cultural backgrounds.
